The FILM 10: Sineng Sining Sine Festival is the very first of its kind in UPOU history. To embark on its 1st edition this year, the program will be graced by  A-list and prominent film directors in the industry - such as Joey Reyes, Sari Dalena, Aleah Aliporo-Eugenio, Arlene Cuevas, Arvin Belarmino, and Arturo Cruz.

Prof. Gian Carlo de Jesus has envisioned such a powerful platform to showcase the student's creativity through short films output. Film 10 students of 3rd Trimester AY 2021-2022 are divided into 10 groups, 7 groups with 1 film entry per group. Despite the difficult times brought by the pandemic, Film 10 students manifested UP's fighting spirit and excellence in learning by producing collaborative short films relevant to our current situation.

This year's Film Festival Sineng Sining Sine almost didn't happen, but the persistence and commitment of a handful students made this event possible. Despite the restrictions of the pandemic where most of us are confined in our homes, the Sineng Sining Sine must go on!! This year's films are truly remarkable as each film explores different aspects of both reality and fiction. Our films are guaranteed to make you feel dejected, agitated, furious, and euphoric, but the main question remains, which films will you like the most?

What started as a mere course requirement has unexpectedly transformed and evolved into productive and meaningful collaboration and interaction among the students in FILM 10 class.

On 13 August 2021 at 3:00 PM, the first meeting of the Sineng Sining Sine Festival was held via Zoom.  With most if not all of the class having no actual experience in mounting an entire film festival, we shared snippets of our experiences and observations that are helpful and relevant to the event.

From that small discussion, we were able to create different committees complete with specific tasks and responsibilities. Thus, the Website Committee, Opening Program Committee, PR Committee, Awards Night Committee, and Plenary Committee were born.  The Jurors' Committee was added later during our third meeting.

Fast forward to the present and we're just less than a week away from the festival's official opening.  Who would have thought that we're all capable of achieving such a feat, especially that we have limited time and in a pandemic.  In less than a month, all committees were expected to complete their assigned tasks such as branding and promoting the festival, creating and maintaining a website, inviting speakers, hosting a plenary, gathering jurors, staging an awards night, and many more.

Through our hard work and dedication, I am confident that the very first Sineng Sining Sine Festival will be both successful and memorable.  Thank you, Prof. G for the opportunity and my FILM 10 classmates for making the festival a reality! Cheers to more Sineng Sining Sine Festival!

What is

FILM 10

all about?

Film is one of the most popular art forms across many societies today, and its form, technologies of production and distribution, and cultural significance continue to develop and expand. The course equips learners to appreciate and engage with cinema in a much deeper way.

FILM 10 Sining Sine is initially conceived as an appreciation course. However, in the current technological and socio-cultural context globally, film is an important and relevant tool for education, communication, decision-making just to name a few. Hence, as much as FILM 10 will still achieve its original art appreciation objective, it is now aimed at providing more than enough experience and exposure to filmmaking. So while film is being learned at the theoretical level, its techniques and skills are also learned through intensive yet enjoyable filmmaking exercises.
